Artist's Statement:
Annie Pasikov’s mom
always found rocks in Annie’s pockets and everywhere when she was
a kid. Today, it’s the same story only now her sculpted rocks
are traveling far and wide finding new homes. She received a teaching
degree in art from Illinois State University in 1970 although stone
sculpting wasn’t taught there. After teaching art for grades 1-12
in a small town for three years, she adventured into rural Ontario
to teach art and assist the director at a residential school for
troubled teens for eleven years..
Recently, after lifelong
urges, she taught herself to carve stones, a way to honor their
innate beauty while giving wings to her passion for creating.
Annie’s new career in sculpting was a vital element in her journey
of finding healing from breast cancer. Lately, Annie has been
adding a “trademark” to her works: a decorative curved line symbolizing
transformation from the emotional scar of illness to wonderful new
strength and enthusiasm, the personal outgrowth of such a challenge.
The aliveness she knows when sculpting spills over into the rest
of her living.
Annie can often be
heard encouraging people to follow their dreams, and to do whatever
feeds their souls. For this reason she shares the pleasure
of sculpting through teaching all ages from the beginner to the
apprentice. Her flowing sculptures are inspired by a sense
of communion with the movement of Life. Perhaps the whisper
of intuition that seems to help guide what emerges - a unique blend
of art sense and sixth sense, is what has moved so many people by
her pieces, some even to tears. Annie accepts commissions
for those who prefer a more personalized piece, with a wide variety
of stones from which to choose.
